The Review: Rhett and Link's Book Of Mythicality

Hello everyone!

Sorry for those of you expecting a blog post yesterday, I wasn't skiving, I was in fact finishing off this book. After all, what good is doing a book review when I haven't even finished reading the book yet? Forgiven me yet?

No, ok well I'll deploy tactic number 2- the sympathy vote. I had my very first ever flu jab today. I've never had one before and (touch wood) I've never had flu either so I've always gone year by year surviving the flu season by my own strength alone. In fact, I'm rarely ever ill and I have my immune system to thank for that so I thought why should I have one? I'll be fine! Basically, long story short, Jasmine got me to go. Everyone else was going and I thought well, I suppose I could try it and see. If everything goes to pot this year then I'll know just what to blame: the flu vaccine! As I work for the NHS, I got it for free and got a badge and a complimentary chocolate. Chocolate has the power to drag even the most reluctant to participate in anything-even me. As I was going up to the jabbing chamber lots of weird and unlikely hypothetical scenarios were going around my head, the most prolific was: what if the Government have infiltrated the vaccine with something that will make us all conform to their will?! Before I got jabbed I had to sign my life away on a form and after a sharp scratch I was immune from flu.

Right, now you've all forgiven me for my blogging no-show, back to the review.

You may remember me writing a review of Good Mythical Morning on this blog previously, but now the boys have a book! Rhett and Link had announced they had a book coming out a lot sooner than they released it and the anticipation was real. I'd been watching Good Mythical Morning for several months by this point I knew I was fully invested in making my mornings mythical. Ok, so I clearly wasn't as much of a super fan as others because I'd only known about GMM for a few months, however I grew fond of the show, and the boys themselves, very quickly. I liked their humour, their content and the way they approached everything in a way that would make them unique. I enjoyed their show and was soon watching it at work on the sly. I still do admittedly. It makes me feel better somehow; it's escapism for me. These guys genuinely have fun at work and get to be the masters of their own mythicality and how they live their lives, and there's something I really take from that. They have a name for their followers: Mythical beasts. With their book, they've not only added a new branch to their mythical empire, but they've reached out to mythical beasts on a more personal level.

Their book is basically an extension of their show; a delve into what made the boys so mythical and also doubles up as a user guide on how to live and do everything with a bit more mythicality, or in layman's terms, how to live your life with more elaborateness. Every chapter discusses a new topic from making your relationships mythical, to making bold hair choices, unleashing your own signature dance moves, how to make a mythical friend, eating something that scares you, and tips list on how to conduct a truly mythical party that definitely won't suck. Add to these chapters personal stories from Rhett, Link and the mythical crew, mythical games to play, quizzes to take yourself and checklists to keep you on the right mythical path and you have a guide to real mythical success. The book even includes a whole chapter on their own funerals; a song to sing at their funeral, their mythical obituaries, and even a script and tips for making your own demise more mythical. They've even managed to make death sound less daunting!

I had real fun reading this book and reading the journey these boys have been through. They really have been best friends for the majority of their lives and have always made it their mission to approach their friendship and their lives with mythicality. They've worked their socks off and from the first page to the last, there's no doubting they've enjoyed every minute of their journey to mythical stardom. They even knew as kids their friendship had legs. Well, with Rhett being so tall, having legs was never going to be a problem with these two! Having read the book, I now watch their shows in a different way; I appreciate how hard they work to get that show out every day and to offer something for us all to smile at each day and I know now the magnitude of their success has even surprised them!

I doubt the real Rhett and Link will ever stumble upon this blog post, but in case they do in some weird (and also very welcome) twist of fate, I would like to thank you both. You've made me snort with laughter in my office, grin to myself reading all your amusing and embarrassing stories but most of all you've made me think about how I can add some mythicality into my life. I'm naturally quite an anxious person anyway but I think adding fun into even the most mundane things will help me no end.

If you too would like to give this book a read, you can order it at any self respecting book shop, but if you've not come across Rhett and Link or indeed Good Mythical Morning, then where have you been?! Go and check them out! Today's episode is inspired by a chapter in their book "conduct a weird experiment" where they are left wondering what being soaked in coke would do to a list of things including a Big Mac. I'll say no more and let you watch it for yourself:

Leaving A Big Mac in Soda For 2 Months

So that concludes my review! Go and check out the GMM boys for yourself and then read the book, you won't be disappointed. I'll be back on Monday morning, have a lovely weekend!!
