Mum's Surprise Birthday Present

Evening guys,

Sorry for my absence on Wednesday, I was at the cinema watching the new Kingsman film with mum and her friends on Tuesday evening so I used Wednesday to catch up on Dr Foster and Bake Off. Besides, mum's surprise was revealed last night so I thought today would be the best day to update you all. It's not going to be a long one today though as I'm feeling a bit peaky but full service will resume soon (hopefully)

Firstly to Kingsman: The Golden Circle. It was a good film....if you view it as an almost entirely satirical look on the action/spy genre and film culture. The story at times was a bit far fetched with Eggsy at one point having to finger a target's girlfriend at a music festival just to get more of a lead on the case. Yes, you did read that right. The cast was good; Elton John's potty mouth and sequin-clad bust ups with his capturs and the hot-to-trot Channing Tatum giving the audience a sight for sore eyes and provided several laughs in among the ridiculousness.

Now on to explain the title. For several weeks, me and Matthew have been concocting a surprise break away for mum. I've been wanting to tell you all for weeks, but as mum reads my blog too, that would be a silly idea! It started when Matthew found tickets to Disney On Ice and I suppose it all snowballed from there. There were two tickets available so before anything else was booked, I thought I should perhaps ask one of mums friends if they wanted to go along for the trip too. I knew who she'd been away with before so I decided to ask them. Unfortunely neither of her friends could go so after a lot of umming and ahhing, I decided to just plan a solo trip for her. She's always discovering new places solo and she likes the freedom to so I figured going solo wasn't going to be too bad after all. Up next was to get mum to book the days off work. This was surprisingly easy really but questions soon started to be asked as to why- questions that mum would ask continuously for the next few weeks up until the reveal day!!! Once the time off was booked, the green light was given to book the rest; hotel, flights and train tickets. I also found a great looking walking tour of Glasgow too so I booked her onto that and put in money to pay for it. I then started to look around the local area to see what else she could explore whilst she was there. As I started to gather all the bookings together, I got a box to make it all look pretty and kept it all at work and sorted it at Matthew's so mum couldn't find it. I wanted this trip to be a complete surprise but most of all, I wanted it to be a completely hassle-free experience for her from start to finish. Everything I could think of I booked or printed out copies of; boarding passes, train tickets, bus timetables, confirmation emails, maps of the area, a potential itinerary, suggestions on where to go etc etc. I thought as she's always planning and organising for everyone else, I would organise something for her. Some time for herself with minimal worries.

Mum with her birthday cake

Her birthday was yesterday and she only found out yesterday. She seemed shocked as she read through everything we had arranged for her but then she immediately got to packing and doing a few last minute Google searches for bits to see whilst there. I say last minute because, well, I told her 7pm yesterday and she's currently in Glasgow as I'm typing now. So perhaps a little rushed but as I'd sorted everything else, all she had to really do was pack! As I know mum will be reading this, yes I will be doing your food shopping while you're away and as for the ironing consider that done as well. Enjoy your time away and I will see you next week!

Now as for me, I will be away with Matthew in Blackpool next week so I won't be blogging as usual however I will be back next Monday evening to give you all the holiday gossip of course!

So, that's all from me for now. Thankyou for your patience with the lack of consistent blogging. I hopefully will be back to normal service soon. Have a lovely weekend and a great week next week, bye bye!
