Who's eyes were glued to the TV last night?
TV is a constantly evolving thing with programmes coming and going with the seasons. Whether it's reality TV like 'I'm A Celeb' and 'BGT', we all have got used to the years schedule and in fact, some wish the year away longing for their favourite show to come back to their screens. September has only just begun and already the end of year TV schedule is under way with XFactor in full swing and soon 'I'm A Celeb' will make it's annual return to TV in only a matter of weeks. Not only this, but soaps like Eastenders are already getting juicy again no doubt ready for the Christmas specials. With TV content hotting up for the Autumn and Festive seasons, it's time to talk about the new stand out day of the week- Tuesday.
It's all about Tuesday nights now on TV....well for the next few weeks anyway. When the Bake Off channel change was announced, the BBC probably started to plan like crazy thinking of something that was going to fill that ratings gap. The BBC had no need to panic however, they had this all sorted from the get go and yesterday night they came out with their guns blazing. Go big or go home is the motto and the BBC sure didn't disappoint with the debut of Doctor Foster series 2. Thankfully, Bake Off and Doctor Foster didn't go head to head- even the BBC wouldn't be that silly- and viewers were able to sit and enjoy both one after the other. Isn't it amazing when 2 channels come together like this? 2 hours of superb TV in quick succession with only a minor channel hop in between!
Dr Foster returns for series 2 on BBC1. Picture: Digital Spy |
It seems like the every doctor the BBC has hired has proved a ratings hit and Doctor Foster is no exception. In fact, I'd say Doctor Foster is far better than Doctor Who but that's just my opinion. Series 1 aired back in 2015 and followed Dr Gemma Foster as she went on a one woman mission to uncover her husband's affair with explosive consequences. The tension was palpable throughout with some moments having you on the edge of your seat nearly unable to take a breath while others made you want to shout 'Girl power!' and jump for joy as she won her battle against her cheating husband Simon. When Gemma uncovered the sheer lengths and depths of her husband's affair which involved almost everyone in the area making her question everything she knew, she took a deep breath and went forth on the journey to vengeance. I watched the first series in one go as it was so gripping. I didn't get to sleep until 4am but boy was it worth it. The final episodes were simply fantastic and to say I was hopelessly addicted to the story and the climactic drama is an understatement. How people waited 2 years for the next series I have no idea. However, the doctor is back at last and the first episode finished on the best, most dramatic cliff hanger so far. Yes, one episode in and I'm already addicted. Simon the slimy, passive aggressive ex-husband has decided to move back to the area with his new wife and child, knocking Gemma and son Tom for six. Two years has passed since the affair and Gemma is struggling to deal with the fact Simon is back with his new family and is seemingly doing great despite ruining her life. To add insult to injury, Simon is trying to get everyone back on his side and pretend like none of the last two years happened. As you can imagine, Simon and Gemma try to talk things though to no avail leading to the episode ending with Gemma having to dust off that armour and face going into battle with him again, only this time for her son.
Steven's Showstopping biscuit board game. Picture: Daily Mail |
Bake Off yesterday was biscuit week. The signature challenge was a sandwich biscuit and everyone seemed to get through this round relatively unscathed. The technical challenge was soon unveiled with the contestants having to get their heads around making Paul's fortune cookies with the perfect snap- and shape! Not everyone got on with the cookies with some under baking them while others couldn't grasp the correct shape. The final showstopper challenge required the contestants to get their game faces on and bake a biscuit game that could not only be eaten, but played. Most contestants went for a board game theme as it was easier to assemble. The end results looked great and once again Steven came through to win favour with his chess game complete with intricately decorated chess pieces. These pieces, completed with a delicious game board meant he won the coveted Star Baker award. Unfortunately, every week brings another eviction from the tent and Chris was named by Sandy as the second to leave the Bake Off tent. (psst, next week is bread week!)
That's all from me for this week. On Friday I am braving a new hairstyle so be sure to come back on Monday for all the gossip on that! Have a great weekend and I'll see you back here on Monday evening.
